Psycho Murderers

Psychiatry and Crime: Patients are not more violent than others:

Scientific studies assume that 30 to 50 percent of prisoners exhibit an anti-social character. Psychiatry is shorten in several terms: psychological disorders, depression, suicide, personality illness and others. In contrast, the crime is accompanied by different terms: murder, rape, theft, imprisonment, punishment, etc.

At first sight, the terms is not related to each other, but the depth raises several questions: Do mental disorders increase the rates of crime? Are the criminals psychologically troubled? What are the psychological disorders shown by criminals and prisoners? What are the psychological motivations associated with certain crimes? Is violence the result of mental illness or the neglect of mental illness and not treat it increases the intensity of violence?

The head of the Lebanese Psychiatric Association Dr. Elie Karam told the ambassador during the conference on "psychiatry and crime" that there is no scientific proof that people suffering from mental and mental illnesses commit crimes more than ordinary people. On the other hand, individuals suffering from serious and severe mental illnesses commit fewer crimes than others. Karam explains that the media and society highlight the crimes committed by psychiatric patients because of the nature of these unexpected crimes. Moreover, The head of the psychiatry department of the St. Charles Hospital, Dr. Eli Shedid, points out that mental patients commit part of violent acts without being linked to all forms of violence, often they are victims of violence. The real violent acts result from the neglect and lack of follow-up of psychiatric patients, not from the characteristics of their mental illness.

The head of the psychiatry department at the Hotel Dieu hospital Dr. Sami Risha points to the importance of informing judges and police about psychological diseases and their characteristics by including some educational materials on the academic track. Judge Peter Germanus says judges should not know what is going on in the mind. The accused is concerned with the application of the law and justice.

Schizophrenia and crime:

Forensic psychiatrist Dr. Bernard Cordier explains that schizophrenia is not a disease associated with criminality. On the contrary, individuals with schizophrenia are less violent and criminal than others. On the other hand, according to Cordier, statistics reveal that the rate of schizophrenic people is higher in prisons compared with outside countries. Also, Cordier reinstates the rate to several factors, including the prison and isolation factor, which increases the incidence of schizophrenia among some prisoners who liable to this disease. Cordier notes that the French courts note the status of these sick prisoners and require medical follow-up.

Crime of passion:

US statistics show in 2003 that 30 to 50 percent of women victims were killed by their husbands, raising the issue of "crimes of passion". The fear and the fear of separation, according to Dr. Nada Zahiruddin, constitute the main drivers of these crimes, without mental illness being an important factor in this type of crime. The perpetrators of crimes of passion show personal characteristics such as: anti-society, dependency or subordination, paranoia, narcissism, etc. In contrast, about a third of individuals who kill their beloved ones commit suicide. These perpetrators show mental and psychological illnesses (depression). She explained that the crimes of passion differ from the crimes of honor carried out by men for different motives.

Crime and sick personality:

Anger, by definition, is the main trigger of violence in all sick people. An anti-social character is the most pathological figure associated with violent and disorganized actions, especially in men. The paranoid personality is the second most common pathogen among male offenders and third in women. The marginal character is the most common among the pathogens shown by some of the female specimens. In contrast, people who are anxious or obsessed with obsessive-compulsive disorder are not aggressive or violent.

Crime in children and adolescents:

Psychiatrist in children and adolescents, Dr. John Fayad, points out that the rate of crime among children and adolescents is low. Risk factors are concentrated on early stages or offensive violence such as,  family history, low intelligence, and others. Some biological factors, such as dysfunction of intellectual functions and interaction between genes and environmental conditions, contribute to the emergence of violent acts in children. Fayad stresses the importance of preventive intervention and follow-up psychological situation of parents and children.
